Breathtaking oil paintings capture moments of peace under the water surface
Californian artist Isabel Emrich paints dazzling depictions of women immersed in water. Each colored oil painting floats the artist's subjects meditatively and captures moments of tranquility under the water surface while welcoming the dancing sunlight from above. The artist was inspired by discovering the feelings of peace and calm with the energy that comes from the movement of the waves you feel when my underwater collection sinks into the water.
Emrich describes his work as "an Expressionist style that is both abstraction and figurative." Inspired by the work of Expressionist pioneers such as Van Gogh, underwater paintings are rendered with plenty of energetic brush strokes in a vibrant color palette. These paint layers reflect the fluid nature of the water itself, capturing bright light and waves that reflect from the surface and brighten the subject's skin.
Emrich said, “Being in the water is one of the clearest examples one can imagine 'being right now.' Time remains constant and once again lost for past and future. A Zen-like person is here and now. "
Emrich's charm with water began as he grew up in Southern California. Her grandmother would often bring her to the cliffs where she would observe the sea below and paint in the air (outside), just like the French Impressionists of the past. His grandmother's deceptively simple advice is "Just paint what you see."
